SHIMLA - The body of a student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) was found Sunday in Himachal Pradesh, police said. The student reportedly drowned in the Beas river Saturday.

“The body of Apurv Chaudhary of Dibrugarh in Assam was found today (Sunday) in the Beas river. He was a second-year B.Arch student of the NIT at Hamirpur,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Gurdev Sharma told IANS on phone.

He said the victim had gone for a picnic along with four other friends. Two friends, including Apurv, tried to cross the river. One of them managed to cross the river, but Apurv was swept away due to strong currents.

Police have ruled out any foul play in the death.
