Aftershock hits California-Mexico border region
GUADALUPE VICTORIA, Mexico — A moderate earthquake has shaken residents of the California-Mexico border region, five days after a magnitude-7.2 jolt. There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The magnitude-4.7 aftershock at 4:05 p.m. local time was centered nine miles southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, a Mexican farming town that was also closest to Easter Sunday’s big earthquake.
Alejandro Contreras, a spokesman for Baja California Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, says the walls of his house in the city of Mexicali rattled slightly but nothing fell off the shelves.
Lt. Gonzalo Gerardo (jer-AR’-doh) of the Calexico, Calif., police department says the quake was felt only briefly. The California city’s downtown area has been closed since Sunday.
