KOLKATA - Police Wednesday arrested a human rights activist on charges of impersonation and for holding illegal “people’s tribunals” across West Bengal.

“We have arrested Kirity Roy on the charge of impersonating judiciary and government officials. This apart, we also booked him for cheating and forgery,” Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police Jawed Shamim told IANS.

He said Roy used to run a human rights body called Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha (MASUM).

According to police sources, Roy often held “people’s tribunals” in the name of giving justice to people. He used to call government officials to these tribunals.
