Indonesia shook by 7.7 Earthquake

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (GaeaTimes.com) — After Maxico, Indonesia is the poor victim of earthquake. At least 46 people died when a powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude struck Indonesia around 5:15 AM today. There was also a brief tsunami warning, but removed later.

The tremor was felt in a widespread area, even from Jakarta, the capital 200 km from the epicenter. The focus of the earthquake was located in the Indian Ocean, at a depth of 49 km. The 46 people killed were from two villages in West Java province.

Most people died as their houses collapsed. About 40 people are trapped under roofs and rocks after a landslide. As many as 700 homes are damaged in several localities in western Java, which Cianjur, Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya.

The actual number of death toll or damaged properties cant be figured out since the communications with coastal areas have been completely disrupted.
