NEW DELHI - Five burglars have been arrested in Thane district of Maharashtra in connection with high-profile burglaries in East Delhi, police said Wednesday.
Nine flats of IFS apartments and Supreme Enclave of East Delhi were burgled March 3.
A police team investigating the burglaries received secret information Friday, regarding Nadeem, who is said to be the gang’s leader. He was hiding in Thane district of Maharashtra.
“A team of special staff Saturday arrested five people in Thane district and brought them back to Delhi. These people were involved in the high-profile burglaries here,” I.B Rani, additional deputy commissioner of police, said.
The burglars chose apartments whose guards were elderly. They struck during the day when the residents were out. They wore expensive clothes and drove into the apartment complexes in cars to avoid suspicion.
“The modus-operandi of the burglars was to strike between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. when the residents were out,” a police officer said.
A Honda car and Rs.141,000 were recovered from the burglars. Nadeem was previously involved in 125 cases and arrested many times.
