159 held for defacing public property in Delhi

NEW DELHI - As many as 159 people have been arrested in the capital in the last five months for defacing public property, state Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia said Tuesday.

According to Walia, 200 cases were reported in last five months and 159 persons were arrested by Delhi Police while Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) initiated prosecution in 960 cases of scrawling graffiti on walls and putting up posters.

Delhi government has asked the civic authorities to intensify its drive against defacement of property in view of ensuing Commonwealth Games.

“There needs to be concerted effort to showcase a clean and better Delhi during Commonwealth Games as a large number of foreigners, sportsmen, sports officials will be visiting the capital,” he said.
