10 killed in Pune accident

PUNE - Ten people travelling in a sports utility vehicle were killed when it hurtled off a highway here after ramming into a truck’s rear, police said.

Nine people were injured, some seriously, in the accident on the Pune-Satara highway, police officer Ashish Kale told IANS. They have been taken to the Sassoon Hospital here.

The incident occurred near the newly-constructed Katraj tunnel at about 4.30 a.m. Most victims belonged to two families of Vavar village in Satara district and were going to Mumbai via Pune.

The dead include three women and an infant.
