One killed in shootout in Delhi

NEW DELHI - One person was killed in a shootout between two groups in Delhi, police said Thursday.

The shootout took place in the early hours of Wednesday in Bhajanpura area in north-east Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Ajay, who also had a criminal background, a police officer told media persons Thursday evening.

Ajay was rushed to the G.T.B. Hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer said.

Five live cartridges have been recovered from the spot, added the officer.

Ajay was recently released from jail, and lived in Seelampur area.

He was a member of a gang led by Lallu Pehlwan. The deceased had committed several crimes in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh as well, added the officer.

But the police officials did not say how the shootout began, adding further details were being investigated.
