La. chemical warehouse erupts in flames; none hurt
DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — Louisiana state police say a huge fire has erupted at a warehouse used for chemical storage, forcing the evacuation of about 20 nearby residents.
No injuries were immediately reported.
Lt. Doug Cain, a state police spokesman, says the blaze at the Coco Resources warehouse was reported about 2:10 p.m. He says authorities set up a perimeter a quarter of a mile around the building.
Smoke could be seen as far away as Baton Rouge, about 20 miles from the warehouse in Denham Springs.
Eleven area fire departments were called to the scene.
