KARNAL - A sessions court here Monday reserved for March 30 its order on the quantum of sentence for six men convicted of the honour killing of a newly-wed couple in 2007.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Vani Gopal Sharma March 25 held six men guilty of murdering the couple for marrying within their clan. A seventh convict, a driver, was held guilty for abduction.

Manoj, 23, who ran an electronics repair shop at Kaithal, married Babli, 19, resident of Karoran village, against the wishes of the girl’s family. They eloped in May 2007 and were murdered the following month.

According to police, the girl’s relatives dragged the couple out of a Karnal-bound bus in June 2007, brutally murdered them and dumped their bodies into a canal.

Manojs family members are demanding death sentence for the accused. They deserve no sympathy and mercy from the court. They brutally killed my brother and his wife, we only want capital punishment for all the accused, Manojs sister Seema, a Haryana Police constable, told IANS.
