NEW DELHI - The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday directed the Haryana government to pay Rs.300,000 to a 40-year-old woman who was raped by two Haryana policemen two years ago.

The NHRC said it had issued a notice to the chief secretary of Haryana to pay the monetary relief and send proof of payment within six weeks.

An NHRC official said the woman was dragged out of an auto by a Haryana policeman, Dinesh Kumar, who took her to his house and raped her along with his guest and commando Bijender Singh Feb 21, 2008.

While Kumar was dismissed from service in August that year, Bijender Singh was arrested and suspended from service.

“The commission said the victim should be compensated and directed the Haryana government to pay her a monetary relief of Rs.300,000,” added the official.
