GHAZIABAD - The wife of a lawyer allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the door bolt in their house here. The woman’s relatives have alleged she was murdered for dowry.
According to Rajesh Dwivedi, Inspector Incharge, Indirapuram police station, Teresa (21) was found hanging from the door bolt of her house in Sector-6 area of Vasundhara Thursday night.
“At around 12.30 a.m. on Thursday night, her husband Sushil Kumar noticed that she was hanging from the bolt of the door from inside and informed the police,” Dwivedi said.
Sushil Kumar is a lawyer with a Delhi court. Originally from Sondha locality under Newari police station area, Teresa married Palwal resident Sushil nearly two years back.
The couple had a one-year-old daughter.
However, for the last few days, Sushil’s work was not going very well and he was nearly jobless. The two shifted to Sector-6 in Vasundhara some time back.
The police said the body of Teresa bore several injury marks. Claiming that she did not commit suicide but was murdered by her husband, Teresa’s brother Krishna Kumar said: “She told us often that her husband used to beat her for no reason. We had even paid Rs.50,000 demanded by him a few days back.”
A case of dowry death was registered at the Indirapuram police station against Sushil Kumar and others on the complaint of the woman’s brother Krishna Kumar.
