NEW DELHI - Two people were injured when a crane toppled at a Delhi Metro construction site in southeast Delhi Wednesday, an official said.

According to Delhi Metro officials, the accident took place at the under construction Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor in Sarita Vihar at 4.10 p.m.

The incident took place between the Mohan Estate and the Tughlakabad Metro stations.

The crane was within the barricaded area and was lifting iron rods at the site when it toppled. Its boom hit an auto rickshaw parked outside the barricaded area.

“A hydra crane toppled and fell on one of the auto-rickshaws parked nearby. Two people, an employee of a sub-contractor and an auto rickshaw driver, suffered minor injuries,” a Delhi Metro official said.

The cause of the toppling is not certain and a committee headed by the chief project manager (southeast) has been constituted to investigate the incident, the official added.

One of the injured workers was identified as Rajesh, 30. Both the injured were admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
