NEW DELHI - A south Delhi temple priest arrested for allegedly raping a 30-year-old mentally unstable woman was Monday sent to one day’s police custody by a court.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ravinder Singh sent Santosh Kumar Tiwari passed the ruling after the Delhi Police filed an application.
Tiwari was arrested Sunday from Saket, near Pushp Vihar colony where the temple is situated, for the Feb 4 rape. The woman had complained to her family after the incident and Tiwari was absconding since then.
Tiwari, 38, was arrested after he was manhandled by the victim’s brother, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal told reporters here.
“Police reached the spot while Tiwari was being manhandled. (We learnt) that Tiwari had sexually assaulted the woman one and half months ago at his home,” Dhaliwal said.
“The victim’s brother saw him in Saket yesterday (Sunday),” he added.
