Brake, driver problems cited in fatal Ariz. crash
PHOENIX — Authorities say a bus that rolled on an Arizona freeway last week, killing six passengers and injuring 16 others, had problems with its brakes and its drivers.
Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety say inspectors have concluded that the brakes of the bus were substandard enough that it should have been taken off the road. They say one of two drivers aboard didn’t read and speak English well, and neither driver had a logbook of his previous seven days of duty.
The agency says the investigation is continuing and that it has not established a specific cause for the accident.
The bus was traveling from the central Mexican state of Zacatecas to Los Angeles when it hit a pickup truck and rolled last Friday on Interstate 10 south of Phoenix.
