RAIPUR - A Government Railway Police (GRP) constable in an inebriated condition assaulted several people Sunday at the Bhilai Power House railway station in Chhattisgarh, police said. He was taken into custody.

Surju Prasad Pandey created a scene for an hour at the crowded Bhilai Power House railway station, some 30 km from here, in a drunken state. He beat up several coolies and fruit sellers and set several important papers on fire when he was locked by colleagues inside the railway police station.

“Pandey assaulted several people at the (railway) station. He set important files and documents on fire when his two colleagues locked him inside the railway police station. He was then overpowered by policemen called from the Bhilai police station,” officials at police headquarters in Raipur told IANS.

The cop is now in police custody and being interrogated for his unruly behaviour.
