IMPHAL - Manipur Advocate General N. Koteshor was critically injured Saturday when he was shot at while returning from a function, with the bullet piercing his chest, police said.
It was not clear if it was a militant attack or accidental firing from the service weapon of a security escort of a minister following his car.
A police spokesman said that the incident took place at Lidan, 30 km east of Imphal, while Koteshor was returning from a function in the adjoining Ukhrul district.
“The AG was in his car and suddenly a bullet pierced his arm and hit the chest. He was brought to Imphal and doctors are carrying out an emergency operation on him. The bullet is stuck in his ribs,” a police official said.
The official said it was not immediately known from where the bullet was fired.
“We are trying to find if it was accidental firing as a number of vehicles, including of two ministers, were returning in a convoy from the function,” the official said.
