Three policemen killed in West Bengal road accident

KOLKATA - Three policemen were killed and one critically injured in a road accident in West Bengal’s Hooghly district late Monday night, police said Tuesday.

The accident took place near Rukeshpur under Balagarh police station area in the district as a speeding truck hit a police vehicle on patrol, killing the three men on the spot.

“Three police men - two constables and the driver of the vehicle - died on the spot while a sub-inspector was critically injured and admitted to a district hospital,” an officer of the Balagarh police station told IANS on phone.

He said the accident occurred when the police vehicle was on night patrol in the area.

“No one has been arrested in connection with the case as the offending vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident,” the police officer said.
