KOLKATA - Three more people were arrested Wednesday for the abduction of a software engineer from Kolkata’s satellite township Rajarhat last week, police said.

Two people were arrested earlier in connection with the case.

“We have arrested the main accused Sanjoy Pal today (Wednesday) along with two other people who are believed to be involved in the abduction case. We have also recovered Rs.1.90 lakh from Pal,” Superintendent of Police (North 24 Parganas) Rahul Srivastava told reporters.

Police said Sandipan Das had taken a taxi from Rajarhat New Town area Friday evening. But he did not reach home that night.

According to police sources, after Sandipan had boarded the taxi, the driver stopped the vehicle near a deserted crossing.

Three people who were waiting nearby muscled into the taxi and overpowered Sandipan as the driver drove off to a hideout in Dakshineswar area. The abductors also allegedly threatened Das’s family members and asked for hefty ransom, police said.

Later, Das returned to his Kasba residence Sunday morning.

Police arrested two people, Ash Mohammad and Mohammad Ahesan, from Barahanagar area in connection with the crime.

“Interrogating the duo, the district police could zero in on the mastermind Sanjoy Pal and two other associates,” Srivastava said.
