SHIMLA - It was a honeymoon that apparently went sour and ended in a murder. A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his newly-wed wife by pushing her off a cliff during their honeymoon in Himachal Pradesh, police said Tuesday.
The body of the victim, Simranjit Kaur, was recovered from a gorge in Shimla district early Tuesday, over a week after her death. Her husband Simranpal Singh Bhullar was arrested from Panchkula in Haryana Monday.
“Simranjit Kaur’s body was found in a gorge in Hasan Valley near Chharabra in Shimla district Tuesday on the basis of information provided by the accused (Bhullar),” Assistant Superintendent of Police Anand Dhiman told IANS.
He said the couple had gone there for sightseeing but had a fight while they were there.
“The woman was pushed over the cliff on the evening of Feb 22 by her husband. After pushing her over the cliff, Bhullar waited there for more than half an hour to ensure that his wife was dead,” Dhiman said.
The couple, hailing from Punjab’s Ferozepore district, were married Jan 17, 2010. They had come on their honeymoon to Shimla Feb 22 and stayed in Kufri, 13 km from here.
After checking out from the hotel Feb 22, they went for sightseeing near Chharabra.
“After killing his wife, the accused fled to Chandigarh. He was arrested yesterday (Monday) from Panchkula in Haryana on the basis of a complaint lodged by his family. On interrogation, he confessed his crime,” a police official said.
“The woman died due to head injuries,” he added.
