KOLKATA - Suspected Maoists Monday shot dead a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activist in West Bengal’s Purulia district, police said.

A group of rebels opened fire at Kalosona Mondal around 6 p.m. near Khekriri village, police said.

“The incident took place in an interior and forested area. It will take us some time to reach the spot,” an officer at Balarampur police station told IANS by phone.

The victim was Balarampur panchayat samiti (village council) joint president and younger brother of local CPI-M leader Judhistir Mondal.
