NEW DELHI - Two unidentified boys on a bike threw some acidic substance on a 29-year-old woman in Delhi Cantonment area Saturday while she was returning home from work, police said Sunday.

“The victim, Vimla Devi, works as a saleswoman in a health drink company in Rajouri Garden area of West Delhi. The incident took place around 7 p.m. Saturday while she was returning home,” said a police officer.

“She was on a rickshaw when two boys on a motorcycle threw some acidic substance on her and fled. She was taken to a nearby hospital. She suffered 20 percent burn injuries on her hands and chest,” he added.

The woman is married and the couple lives in Nangal area. Her husband Girdhari works in a private company.

“As the attackers fled on their motorcycle and it was a little dark, she doesn’t remember their faces properly and was also not able to note down the number of their motorcycle. The couple said they are shocked and don’t suspect anyone as they don’t have enmity with anyone,” the police officer said.

“A case has been registered in this regard but no arrests have been made so far. Efforts are on to identify the assailants,” he added.
