Woman tourist found murdered in Shimla hotel

SHIMLA - A woman tourist, who had come with a male companion to this Himachal Pradesh capital, was found murdered in a hotel here Saturday, police said.

“A woman around 22-yeard-old was today (Saturday) found lying in a pool of blood in Rashik Hotel in Kaithu area of the city. As per the records of the hotel, she checked in the hotel with her companion yesterday (Friday) at 3 p.m.,” Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma told IANS.

He said the police found the resume of the man from the crime scene, identifying him as Gaurav Verma, a student of the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee.

“We talked to the principal of the IIT who said Gaurav is a student with them. We have even contacted his family in Gonda in Uttar Pradesh,” Sharma said.

The woman was murdered during the wee hours of Saturday, he said, adding that the victim was yet to be identified.
