NEW DELHI - Police at Delhi airport detained a naked man who was spotted near the runway Friday evening.

According to police sources, the man, identified as Arun Rai, jumped the periphery wall of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and started moving towards a taxiway, near runway 29.

The Air Traffic Controller had to abort at the last moment the landing of a domestic flight coming from Hyderabad because of the man’s presence.

The man entered from the T3 construction site. We had to ask flights to land at runway 28 after the intrusion, said an ATC official.

The paramilitary Central Industrial Security Force, which guards the airport, has detained Arun, a native of Bihar, and are interrogating him.

The incident took place at 8 p.m. Friday.

A Delhi Police official at the airport confirmed the detention of the man.
