Bihar’s ruling party legislator kills wife,daughter, self

PATNA - Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) legislator Abhay Singh shot dead his wife and daughter late Thursday night before killing himself at his home here, police said Friday.

Family sources however said that Singh, legislator from Jamui and son of Bihar Minister for Food and Consumer Protection Narendra Singh, committed the acts early Friday.

Singh first shot dead his wife and daughter and later killed himself, the police said, adding that the the daughter was less than a year old.

The incident has sent shockwaves in political circles here.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, most of the ministers, legislators and Leader of Opposition Rabri Devi visited Singh’s residence.

The reason behind Singh’s actions are yet to be ascertained. However, according to family sources, Singh, in his early 40s, was upset for some time due to differences with his father over some family matter.

They said that Singh’s father fell unconscious after hearing of the deaths.

“Narendra Singh was admitted to Indira Gandhi Heart Institute at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) here after his condition deteriorated. He is in the intensive care unit,” a JD-U leader close to him said.

A police official said all three bodies have been sent to the PMCH for post mortem.
