NY mom who left kids alone sentenced in fire death
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A young New York mother has been sentenced to as many as four years in prison for leaving her three young children alone at home shortly before a fatal fire broke out.
Twenty-two-year-old Nicole Allen, of Rochester, drew a sentence Tuesday of 16 months to four years, the maximum penalty for criminally negligent homicide. She also convicted Feb. 8 of three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors say Allen was on a midnight beer run in September 2008 when a stove fire broke out in the apartment. Her 3-year-old daughter was fatally injured.
Also left at home were a newborn and a toddler. They were also badly burned and remain in foster care.
