NEW DELHI - Nearly Rs.30 lakh (Rs.3 million) was allegedly charred to ashes when a van used to collect and deliver money for banks caught fire in Rohini in Delhi, police said Thursday.
“The incident took place Thursday afternoon when a van of private company involved in collecting and delivering money for banks caught fire. There were four people in the van, including two security guards, but no one was injured,” a senior police officer said.
“They told us that the van caught fire when one of its front tyres got stuck in a pothole. They panicked, ran for their safety and before they could have done anything the fire engulfed the van. They were not able to take out the cash box out of the vehicle. There was nearly Rs.30 lakh, all of which was destroyed,” the officer added.
