Avalanche closes Alaska’s Seward Highway
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An avalanche has closed the only highway between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula.
Transportation Department spokesman Roger Wetherell says the avalanche is between mile markers 85.5 and 86 on the Seward Highway, near Turnagain Pass.
There are no immediate reports of injuries.
Wetherell estimates it will take five to six hours to clear the highway. The avalanche was reported just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
