Feared monoxide leak hurts at least 2 at NH school

DERRY, N.H. — A New Hampshire school has been evacuated after more than 20 people showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, including a teacher and student who collapsed.

Fire officials say they were able to isolate the problem Wednesday morning to the third floor of St. Thomas Aquinas School in Derry.

Parkland Medical Center spokeswoman Pat Collopy says nearly 15 people from the school were being evaluated in the emergency room. She says she is not aware of anyone in critical condition.

WMUR-TV quoted fire officials as saying one student and a teacher collapsed.

About 220 students in preschool through eighth grade attend the school and were taken to a nearby church. The school is being vented.

(This version CORRECTS the name of the school to St. Thomas Aquinas School, instead of High School, and CORRECTS the day of hotel leak to Monday, not Tuesday.)
