GHAZIABAD - A diamond ring and a gold chain were allegedly shop-lifted from the showroom belonging to the daughter of the Ghaziabad mayor, police said Monday.
The outlet located in Chaudhary Morh in Ghaziabad, is owned by Himadri Agarwal, 27, the daughter of Mayor Damyanti Goel.
According to Himadri, a couple in its early 30s came to the showroom Feb 14 and asked to be shown diamond rings.
Himadri and her brother Shivansh Goel were present and the couple asked for the best diamond rings available in the showroom. Himadri said that she then went downstairs.
“Just as they were seeing the jewellery, a third customer came and as Shivansh started talking to him, the couple pocketed the most expensive ring and silently walked out. When I reached, I discovered that a ring was missing, along with a gold chain. The diamond ring, alone, costs Rs.2 lakh,” Himadri said.
Before they could raise an alarm, the couple had fled. Mayor Damyanti Goel reported the matter to the police. The CCTV footage showed the couple shop-lifting the jewellery, police said.
The owner of another jewellery showroom in MMX Mall in Sahiabad claimed Monday that the same couple had shop-lifted some jewellery from his shop as well last Monday.
“We are obtaining the CCTV recording of MMX Mall jewellers and would release both the footages together. Till now, the couple has not been identified,” Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijeta said.
No arrests have been made yet.
