Red corner notice to be issued against Ranjit Bajaj

PANCHKULA - The Haryana police will issue a red corner notice against Ranjit Bajaj, the son of a former bureaucrat couple in Punjab, as he was absconding for the last two weeks after being booked for attempt to murder. The police fear he might escape to some foreign country.

Police teams, sent to Delhi and Mumbai to nab him, have returned empty-handed.

“We have sought clearance from the authorities concerned to issue red corner notice against Ranjit. Then all the airports will be informed to prevent his escaping abroad,” said Maneesh Chaudhary, district police chief, here Sunday.

He added: “I cannot reveal the findings of our investigation so far as it could hamper the case proceedings.”

Ranjit was booked under the charge of attempt to murder Jan 29. Since then he remained in contact with his family, friends and media persons through phone, for nearly one week, but police could not ascertain his location.

Ranjit is the son of retired bureaucrats B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj. He was booked following a complaint by Gurmohan Singh Bedi, son of a sitting Punjab and Haryana High Court judge M.M.S. Bedi.

Gurmohan alleged that Ranjit, along with two private security guards, hit him with weapons at the North Park resort in Panchkula over a parking argument at the winter ball of St John’s Old Boys Association (SJOBA).

He said Bajaj threatened to kill him after a verbal duel.

Police sources said Ranjit had left for Mumbai Jan 31 and took part in some television auditions Feb 1 and 2. He then moved to Delhi, where he again gave auditions Feb 4 and 5. However, the police seemed clueless about his present whereabouts.

Ranjit was earlier booked by the Chandigarh police in cases of kidnapping, intimidation and some offences under the Arms Act.
