Experts handling gas cylinders at Conn. blast site
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Experts are being brought to the site of a Connecticut power plant explosion to deal with damaged gas cylinders.
Middletown Deputy Fire Marshal Al Santostefano said Friday the environmental experts will burn off propane and cutting torch gases in the cylinders because it’s safer than removing them from the site damaged.
He says the procedure, planned for Saturday morning away from the immediate blast site, may give off some black smoke but is simple and safe.
Five men were killed in the explosion at the nearly completed 620-megawatt plant as workers purged a gas line Sunday morning.
