NEW DELHI - Delhi Police are awaiting the post-mortem examination report of the 22-year-old visually impaired student of Hansraj College of Delhi University, found hanging in his hostel room, before carrying out further investigations.
“The post-mortem was conducted by the medical board today (Thursday). We are waiting for its report,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagarpreet Hooda told IANS.
“The post-mortem (examination) would help us in ascertaining the time of death and conducting further investigations,” a senior police officer said.
Mukesh Kumar, a second year student of BA Hindi honours, was found hanging from a fan in his first floor hostel room around 8.15 p.m. Tuesday. He belonged to a poor family in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. No suicide note was recovered from the site.
Police have registered a case of murder. According to police, there was an attempt to pass off the murder as a suicide. They, however, noted that Mukesh’s hands were found tied behind his back, the stool was found inches below his dangling legs, and the rope used for the hanging was much longer than needed, indicating it was used to pull the body up.
Hooda Wednesday said that prima facie it looked to be a homicidal hanging.
The police suspect an insider to be involved in the incident and have questioned Kumar’s classmates and the hostel’s security guard.
