SHIMLA - Eleven people, including a child, were killed and five others critically injured in a road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred when a Trax, a utility vehicle, with 16 people on board, skidded into a 300-metre deep gorge near Jagothi stream, about 140 km from here, in Rohru subdivision around 4.30 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shiv Chaudhary told IANS by phone.

He said 10 people died on the spot, while one died in the hospital. The five critically injured have been admitted to the civil hospital in Rohru.

“The victims included two couples from Nepal and their two children. The other victims belonged to local villages,” a police official said.

“Prima facie, it seems to be a case of rash and negligent driving,” he added.
