Woman sold for Rs.25,000 by husband, rescued

BHUBANESWAR - A woman, who was sold by her husband for Rs.25,000 in Orissa, was rescued Saturday from Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Sunday.
Kamalini Sahu, a resident of Dholbandar village in Bargarh district of Orissa, married Pradip Sahu in 2008. She was sold to Dashrath Lodhi of Gulipali village in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh Jan 29.
Kamalini’s father filed a complaint with Bargarh police station, saying his daughter was sold off by her husband.
“My husband had sold me to a man from Madhya Pradesh for Rs.25,000,” said Kamalini.
Orissa police had sent a three-member team to Tikamgarh and recovered Kamalini with the help of local police.
“After getting the complaint on Jan 29 we had sent a three-member team to Tikamgarh. We rescued Kamalini, but Dashrath Lodhi who had bought Kamalini fled,” Bargarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bijay Sahu said.
After rescuing her, police have handed over Kamalini to her parents.
