1.25 kg gold looted from man in Delhi

NEW DELHI - An employee of a jewellery shop was severely beaten up and robbed of 1.25 kg gold by four unidentified men in the capital, police said Friday.

Surya Dev, 33, who works as a helper in a jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk, was on his way to Nangloi carrying a bag containing 1.25 kg gold when the incident took place in Anand Parbat area of central Delhi Thursday night.

“Surya took an auto-rickshaw from Chandni Chowk. On the way, the driver stopped the vehicle saying there was some problem. Four men surrounded the auto-rickshaw. They thrashed Surya and boarded the vehicle. After travelling some distance, they threw him out in Wazirpur area and escaped with the bag containing the gold,” a police officer told IANS.

Surya later called his employer, Ram Niwas Verma, who informed the police about the incident.

“The gold was worth Rs.2.2 million and he was taking it to our registered office in Nangloi,” said Verma.
