GHAZIABAD - A 16-year-old girl was sedated and gang-raped by a phone booth owner and his two accomplices in Hapur town of Ghaziabad Wednesday, police said. Two of the accused have been arrested.
Police said the girl had gone to make a call at a phone booth owned by Raj Kumar Verma in Hapur at around 11.30 a.m. when the crime took place.
“When she asked Verma to show her the way to the toilet, he told her to go to the first floor. Verma later called two of his accomplices, overpowered the minor and injected a sedative, which rendered her unconscious,” said Superintendent of Police (Rural) M.M. Baig.
The girl was then allegedly gang-raped by the three men for about three hours, the official said.
“When she regained consciousness, she cried for help after which neighbourhood shopkeepers arrived and called the police,” Baig said.
The police later arrested Verma, 35, and Mohammed Naseem, 40, while the third accused named Pintu Kumar was absconding, police said.
A case was registered at the Hapur police station and the victim was sent to the MMG district hospital for medical examination, the official said.
