FATEHGARH SAHIB - The Punjab police has busted an inter-state racket of cricket bookies and arrested two people, officials said Wednesday.
According to the police, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Punjab police arrested Ram Lubhaya and Baljit Singh Tuesday night and also recovered around Rs.150,000 from them. They were involved in betting on the Pakistan-Australia one-day international cricket match Jan 31.
“Following a tip-off from our source, we arrested the duo when Lubhaya was going to deliver the money to Baljit Singh. They also have links with cricket bookies of other states and we are hoping to make more arrests after their interrogation,” a senior official of the Punjab police said here Wednesday.
He added: “They were also alluring gullible youth of the locality into gambling and betting. Our investigation is on and we may raid more places to unearth more such rackets, flourishing in the region.”
