Blaze that killed 5 in NYC is ruled arson
NEW YORK — New York City police say a weekend fire that killed five people in Brooklyn was arson.
Police said Monday that they want anyone with information about the fire to come forward. Four men and a woman, all Guatemalan immigrants, died.
The woman’s 2-month-old daughter suffered a fractured skull when her father tossed her from a third-floor window of the burning building.
Tests for accelerants are incomplete. But Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano says accidental fires don’t usually start at the front door of a building.
The fire was the city’s deadliest since 2007. That blaze killed nine children and an adult in the Bronx.
