CHANDIGARH - Ranjit Bajaj, the son of a former bureaucrat couple in Punjab, was Saturday booked on charges of attempt to murder, police said.

Bajaj is the son of retired bureaucrats B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj.

He has been booked following a complaint from the son of a Punjab and Haryana High Court judge.

Police officials said Bajaj was involved in an altercation with the judge’s son at the North Park resort near Panchkula, 20 km from here, late Friday night during the winter ball of St. John’s Old Boys Association (SJOBA).

The complainant told police that Bajaj drove his car over his (complainant’s) feet and his private guards took out weapons and hit him.

He alleged that Bajaj threatened to kill him after a verbal duel.

St John’s is a leading upscale school in Chandigarh.

Bajaj has been earlier booked by Chandigarh police in cases of kidnapping, intimidation and other offences under the Arms Act.

Retired Indian Administrative Service officer Rupan Deol Bajaj, who had accused supercop K.P.S. Gill in 1988 of molestation, is now a information commissioner in Punjab.
