Brooklyn fire kills 5, critically injures baby
NEW YORK — A fire has killed five people and critically injured a baby in New York City.
Fire officials say other victims are hospitalized after the blaze in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst section early Saturday. Their conditions aren’t immediately known.
Authorities say the fire engulfed a three-story building on a busy commercial strip. It consumed a ground-floor restaurant and crowded apartments on the upper floors.
Several firefighters were also injured in the hours it took to get the blaze under control. The fire interfered with service on an elevated subway line.
