Powerful quake jolts Philippines islands

WASHINGTON - An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale Thursday jolted the islands in the Philippines, the US Geological Survey said on its website.

The quake occurred at 2.49 a.m., with its epicentre 495 km southeast of Manila.

There was no immediate report of damage. No tsunami warning was issued, Xinhua reported.
