PATNA - A case was lodged here against the contractors and engineers of the National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), India’s largest public sector construction company, in connection with the death of two youth, who fell in a big ditch dug by them, police said Thursday.

Vivek Shekhar and Ranjit Kumar, in their early 20s, died after they fell in a ditch dug at Malahi-Pakdi locality in Kankarbagh area late Tuesday night.

“They were killed due to a human error. They died because the contractors and engineers of NBCC dug a ditch in the open without barricading it and there wasn’t even a warning board,” Sanjay Pratap, a friend of Vivek said.

Police officials said the family members of Vivek and Ranjit lodged a case against the contractors and engineers of NBCC with the Patrakar Nagar police station here.

“The initial investigation suggests that the two died due to lack of proper lighting and barricading around the ditch,” a police official said.

“Both the friends were going to celebrate the birthday of one of them when the incident took place,” police said.
