Thieves back in jail after dozen robberies

CHANDIGARH - Two thieves were arrested here Wednesday for committing over a dozen robberies after they were released from jail last month, police said.

Sanjay Kumar and Amar Singh alias Sunny, both from Himachal Pradesh, were planning major heists in Chandigarh, said Deputy Superintendent of Police J.S. Khaira.

Kumar had been released from Burail jail here Dec 22 whereas Singh was released in the first week of the same month.

Police also recovered a stolen Swift Dzire car from the accused.

“Both of them are habitual offenders and they used to break the windows of cars parked in markets, offices, universities and colleges to steal valuables kept inside them. They had committed many such robberies from Jan 1 to 13,” Khaira said.
