One killed in firing outside Punjab town court

JAGRAON - A young man was killed and another seriously injured in a shootout outside the district courts complex here Wednesday, police said.
While 22-year-old Hargunjit Singh died, 21-year-old Inderjit Singh was wounded after they were shot at outside the court complex in Jagraon, some 100 km from Chandigarh, a police official said.
“The youths were attacked by a rival group. They had an old dispute that erupted during the elections for the post of students’ union president at LLR DAV College here last year. In September also they had indulged in a brawl, involving firing,” the police official said.
“Six people have been booked and we have already ascertained their identity. Hunt is on to nab them. We have also recovered a .12 bore gun used in the firing that fell from the car of the attackers,” he added.
This is the second instance of a shootout taking place near a court in Punjab in less than a week. On Jan 15, two people were seriously injured in Amritsar when some attackers opened fire inside the court complex.
