NEW DELHI - A gang of robbers involved in at least 11 cases of robbery and vehicle thefts in Delhi was busted and three of its members arrested Thursday, a police official said Friday.
Manveer (23), Sompal (24) and Vikas (26) were apprehended from K.N.Katju Marg in outer Delhi.
“A special team was constituted to nab the robbers who caused the sudden rise in incidents of daylight robberies, snatching and motor vehicle thefts in the area of Rohini since last 2-3 months,” a senior police official said.
Information was received Thursday about movement of some robbers in Rohini area and the team laid a trap.
“At about 6.50 p.m., the police party narrowed on three men who reached the K.N. Katju Marg on two motor cycles. Two of them (Sompal and Vikas) took out their pistols and fired at the police party. All three were over-powered and apprehended,” the police official said.
During investigations, it was revealed that Manveer used to conduct reconnaissance inside banks to choose a target and after identifying one, he would come out and inform the other members.
The gang also robbed passers-by on the highways by giving them lifts. They used the same method while robbing a person of Rs.2 lakh in Pilakhuwa area of Ghaziabad Wednesday.
Police said they recovered two illegally made pistols with nine live cartridges of .315 bore, a revolver of .38 bore, Rs.70,000 in cash, a car and four motorcycles from the three arrested men.
