Rescuers say 3 alive in wrecked Haiti supermarket
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Rescuers are trying to free three people still alive under the rubble of a collapsed supermarket in the Haitian capital.
American rescue workers shouted back and forth with the survivors trapped in the wreckage of an upscale, multistory supermarket in a relatively prosperous suburb of Port-au-Prince.
Rescue workers were able to pass some water to the three, but had not yet figured out how to get to them beneath huge slabs of concrete. The building had completely pancaked.
Word that more people could still be alive after four days added to the rare miracles in a city awash in death and misery.
The Associated Press also witnessed the rescue of 29-year-old Saint-Helene Jean-Louis on Saturday, 97 hours after the quake struck.
