LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Pat Robertson’s Haiti comments display outlandish callousness and that how far religion, or evangelism for that matter, can actually stand in the way of common sense. In a recent comment about the devastating Haiti earthquake, he actually gave an explanation of the matter. Surprisingly enough, it did not have anything to do with the natural geographical causes; instead, he gave the earthquake a new dimension by actually exploring certain “historical” roots of the place. He commented that the earthquake had struck the place as the consequence of a pact that the people had made with the Devil.

Pat Robertson’s comments on the earthquake in Haiti seem all the more outrageous not only because it makes him sound like an anachronism, but also because it comes at a time when all and sundry are busying themselves in trying what they can to provide some relief to the tragedy struck people of Haiti. At a time like this, Pat Robertson, who, as an eminent media personality might be expected to put in his own bit of effort to help out the earthquake victims, instead simply adds to the confusion by making out of context comments.

Pat Robertson went on to mention that the agreement with the Devil has historical context, as it had been done at a time when the Haitians were under the dominance of the French. According to the evangelist, the Haitians had entered into the pact with the condition that the Devil would be freeing them from the French. Pat Robertson stressed in his Haiti comments that the earthquake is only one of the series of natural and other calamities that have befallen the Haitians ever since the deal.
