HAITI (GaeaTimes.com)- The Dominican Republic Earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday has wrecked havoc with the region and the damages are likely to run into millions. The residents of the impoverish Caribbean nation were shaken by the severe quake that resulted in a number of strong aftershocks. The bodies of a lot of injured and dead people were seen lying on the street after the quake hit the region. This is the strongest quake to hit the country in last two centuries. The severity of the calamity compels the Dominican Republic to appeal to international community.

The situation Haiti is grim and the absence of emergency services has added to the trouble of the Dominican Republic Earthquake survivors. A lot of buildings including hospital, the presidential office and cathedrals collapsed after the quake, with an intensity of 7, hit the region. Dominican Republic appealed to international community to provide aid to the region as the situation is grim. Food and relief materials are the need of the hour, according to the presidential office spokespersons. As per the latest reports, US President Barack Obama has expressed his concern for the victims and offered support to the quake hit country.

The Geological Survey of USA has detected that the center of the quake was located at 15km southwest. The Dominican Republic Earthquake was followed by a tsunami- apart from the aftershocks. It is not clear how many people have died but the toll is expected to rise in absence of relief operations. The existing hospitals are not adequate for handling the situation. The neighboring countries are aware that Dominican Republic has appealed to international community and they are preparing aids.
