6.5 Mag. Earthquake hits Eureka, Ferndale in California

Eureka, California (GaeaTimes.com) - A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit 27 miles from Eureka, California on Saturday afternoon, shaking buildings as far as south of Oregon border and kocking out power in several coastal communities.

The earthquake struck at about 4:27 pm PST. Fortunately no reports of injuries or major damage has been received so far according to Lori Newquist, spokeswoman for California Emergency Management Agency.

The distance of the epicenter of the earthquake from the following locations:

  • 31 km (19 miles) WNW (295°) from Ferndale, CA
  • 33 km (20 miles) W (263°) from Humboldt Hill, CA
  • 35 km (22 miles) WSW (257°) from Bayview, CA
  • 37 km (23 miles) WSW (254°) from Eureka, CA
  • 358 km (222 miles) NW (313°) from Sacramento, CA
